Our certificate programs are for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses and all persons involved in compounding. We offer comprehensive practice-based continuing education courses designed to provide both classroom and hands-on training. Participants develop the knowledge and skills necessary to compound sterile preparations safely and effectively. The courses provide practical experience that will assist the participant in evaluating their current sterile compounding practice and implementing changes necessary to become compliant with USP standards.
The Center for Compounding Practice and Research (CCPR) at VCU School of Pharmacy has an interactive, learner-centered instructional lab and a state-of-the-art cleanroom for aseptic processing. Our sterile compounding facility designed according to USP <797> standards allows participants to demonstrate hands-on simulation using current technology. The lab can accommodate 24 participants.

Proper Handling of Hazardous Drugs

"Attending the VCU Center for Compounding Practice and Research USP <797> Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Processing and <800> Training for Proper Handling of Hazardous Drugs was extremely beneficial. Although I had some experience working in a clean room environment, this training focused not only on the rules and regulations but also the scientific reasoning as to why they are in place. As a result I am more confident in my work practices and have been promoted as well. Dr Exum is an excellent resource and I highly recommend participating in these courses."

Participants
"The VCU Center for Compounding Practice and Research offers outstanding continuing education programs for USP <797> Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Processing and <800> Training for Proper Handling of Hazardous Drugs. Dr. Exum and colleagues thoroughly explore both USP 797 and 800. Understanding what these standards mean and the science behind them has proven to be of great value for me as a sterile compounding supervisor. As a result of participating in these continuing education programs, our hospitals have compliant policies and operations. Also of great benefit is having the VCU School of Pharmacy Center for Compounding and Research as a reliable resource for USP compliance information even after the courses were completed. I highly recommend these courses for both pharmacists and technicians."
